SIKA Flow Switches: Functionality and Benefits

SIKA flow switch blog header

SIKA flow switches enable reliable monitoring of liquid media. They are suitable for a wide range of applications, can be used for nominal diameters up to DN 200 and are available with different setpoint ranges. Thanks to their modular design, they can be adapted to your particular requirements.

How do SIKA flow switches work?

A flow switch consists of a paddle system with a permanent magnet attached to the top. Above this magnet is a reed contact which is located outside the flow. A second magnet creates a restoring force for the paddle.

When the flow to be monitored comes into contact with the paddle system, the paddle is deflected. This causes the magnet to change position relative to the reed contact, which is actuated as a result. Once the flow rate drops below a certain value or is interrupted, the paddle returns to its original position and actuates the reed contact again. The required restoring force is generated by the two repelling magnets.

Benefits of SIKA flow switches

By using magnets instead of a conventional leaf spring, SIKA flow switches have significantly better long-term stability and are much less sensitive to pressure peaks. This has been extensively tested and demonstrated in the SIKA test lab. In addition, SIKA flow switches cover wide temperature and pressure ranges and offer great flexibility with regard to material selection and electrical connections.

Areas of application

SIKA flow switches are used in heating technology, heat pumps, industrial cooling circuits, water technology, and potable water applications. They are available in a range of different materials and offer high repeatability, stable setpoints, and a long service life.

Quality

SIKA flow switches enable individual adjustment of the setpoint setting. Component tolerances are compensated during manufacture so that every product meets the specification. The flow switches come with a batch number for full traceability of the manufacturing process, and they are subjected to random sample testing on the water test bench. Detailed test reports are available, e.g. for endurance and temperature tests.

Why SIKA flow switches?

SIKA flow switches serve as a reliable means of monitoring liquid media. Thanks to their magnetic operating principle, sturdy paddle and material-dependent adaptability, they are suitable for a wide range of applications in heating technology, water technology, industrial cooling circuits, and potable water applications. The flow switches are extremely versatile and combine high repeatability with a long service life. They are also easy to install, making them a cost-effective solution for many applications. Our product specialists will be happy to help you in choosing the right flow switch for your application.
